Business3000 Gala Dinner
Business3000 showcases Melbourne’s leading businesses at the annual Business3000 Gala Awards Ball
Date: Thursday 8 October 2009
Venue: RACV Club, 501 Bourke St Melbourne
MC for the evening will be Damian Callinan.
Damian Callinan [comedian, actor, writer] has always found writing biographies problematic. Despite the fact that he has been quite successful
in his chosen comedy career since leaving drama teaching, he has found it difficult to talk of his achievements.
You'd think he'd be falling over himself to tell everyone that he was a regular on such TV shows as Skithouse; Before The Game & The Wedge.
You'd also think he'd be quite happy to let people know he's had a busy radio career with stints on JJJ; Radio National; Mix FM; MMM and he can currently be heard on 774ABC Drive doing fake character interviews with Lindy Burns He also fails to mention the fact he's won a swag of Melbourne Comedy
Festival Awards including 2 'Barry Nominations'; 2 Moosehead Awards, a Piece Of Wood [Comedians Choice] and the ABNN Amro Foreign Exchange Award which sent him to the Edinburgh Fringe.
He's equally adept at straight and character stand up; in high demand on the corporate circuit; is seen in high regard as a director and comedy workshop facilitator and regularly tours the Australia as a headline act.
He has almost completed his first novel ‘Borrydale' as well.
In 2008 he debuted his new solo show ‘Last Drinks' at MICF; toured Victorian & Tasmanian theatres with his solo show ‘Sportsman's Night'; toured WA & Victoria on the ‘MICF Roadshow', won over the audiences of Edinburgh Fringe with his biographical show ‘Spaznuts'; appeared in guest roles on ‘City Homicide' [7] and ‘The Mansion' [Foxtel]" and is one of the stars of the HG Nelson hosted ‘Comedy Smackdown' screened on Foxtel.
Damian has already been busy in 2009 reprising his role in ‘The Complete Works of Shakespeare - Abridged' at the Sydney Opera House; an Adelaide Fringe season of ‘Last Drinks'; A commissioned season of ‘Is This Thing On? - The Dave Berry Story' as part of the Full Tilt program in the Black Box Theatre at the Victorian Arts Centre. He has just concluded a tour of Victoria with ‘Last Drinks' to be followed by a tour of NZ and Australia of ‘Spaznuts'.
Damian was also announced last week as the successful applicant in the Kids 360 pitching round and begins production shortly on his self devised kids comedy TV show ‘After School Care' to be screened on ABC1 & ABC 3 in association with Fremantle Media.
